Healing Modalities

Soken’s unique approach to Rolfing includes these powerful healing modalities:

1. Craniosacral Therapy

A  gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system–comprised of the dural membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

2.Visceral Manipulation

The visceral system relies on the interconnected synchronicity between the motions of all the organs and structures of the body. At optimal health, this harmonious relationship remains stable despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. But when one organ cannot move in harmony with its viscera due to abnormal tone, adhesions or displacement, it works against the body’s other organs and muscular, membranous, fascial and osseous structures. This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension that the body is forced to move around. And that chronic irritation, in turn, paves the way for postural distortion, neuromuscular dysfunction, and disease processes.

3. Cold-Laser Therapy/Neural Manipulation

Soken uses Cold-Laser Therapy in conjunction with Neural Manipulation as developed by Barral and Croibier which examines mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura and neural elements. Such therapy provides assessment and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the dural and neural components not commonly focused on with musculoskeletal symptoms. Neural Manipulation identifies and releases local nerve restrictions while at the same time examines the effect these local fixations have on the rest of the body, and by accessing this relationship, resolves the more comprehensive (global) dysfunctional patterns.

A nerve only functions correctly when it is able to move feely within its surrounding structures. The modality of Neural Manipulation facilitates nerve conductivity and intraneural blood supply for local and systemic responsiveness. The cold laser provides neurons with energy and nutrition in the form of a very clean clean light that restores nerve health and function.
